Gerald Matt is an Austrian curator, author and as the director of the Vienna Art Institute, a privately financed cultural and social think tank, he is responsible for a monthly TV talk with interesting personalities from the cultural, social and political field. He is associate professor at the University of Applied Arts Vienna and the CIAM (Center of International Art Management) in Cologne, where he teaches museum and exhibition management. He also lectures art theory at the Institute of Art History at the University of Innsbruck. At the same time he works as a senior consultant at Graf & Partner, a museum and art advising company.

From 1996 to 2012 Gerald Matt was director of Kunsthalle Vienna, an institution for international contemporary and modern Art.

At the Kunsthalle he organized dozens of popular and groundbreaking shows of artists like Edward Hopper, Bruce Nauman, Louise Bourgeois and Matthew Barney, themed shows on Surrealism and stardom. Many shows were collaborations with major international institutions like the Centre Pompidou and the Guggenheim Museum. He could enforce his expertise and experience as a long-term member of several committees of the museums in Bolzano and Bologna and of the temporary Kunsthalle Berlin.
